Twelve caption styles. Word by word.
Pick a style or save your own. Butter keeps captions off faces and on-screen text, and lights the word you're saying.

Why it exists
Editing is mostly waiting. Waiting to scrub. Waiting to find the take. Waiting to fix the ums. Butter takes the waiting out.
Captions, motion graphics, sound and style are part of the editor, not plug-ins you hunt for. Everything is made from what you shot.
Pick a style or save your own. Butter keeps captions off faces and on-screen text, and lights the word you're saying.
If a shot's edge flickers, Butter says so and holds off. A bad cut-out looks worse than none.
“Whoosh on cuts.” Edit the rule, not each sound. Recut and every sound follows.
Lower thirds, counters, callouts. Spring, snap or smooth. Anything you build moves with the moment it belongs to.
Drop in a reference. Butter reads its pacing, captions and motion, then offers every change as a switch.
Before you approve a short, Butter checks it. A problem comes with a button that fixes it.
Make a short from today's footage. Your Mac swaps the originals in for export.
Butter catalogues a drive once and remembers what's on it: previews, words, faces, tags, moments. It only asks for the original when you export. Folders never move your files.
Your footage, your voice, your sounds. No synthetic video, no cloned voices, no stock. If it's in the cut, you put it there.
Every value Butter sets carries a tag: model or you. Change one and the tag flips. You always know what's yours and what's a suggestion.
Speech and vision run on-device. Your footage stays where you saved it. Butter keeps its own map: previews, words, faces and tags.
To rebuild the timeline after a voice edit, on a 13.8 second clip.
For Butter to understand a plain command like “tighter”.
What a 13.8 second take with ums and stutters comes down to.
Leave your Mac while you build the library. Nothing is uploaded to look at your footage.
Three grounds, same app. Pick one and the whole page changes with it. Try it.
Shortcut: ⌘⇧L flips light and dark.
An edit in Butter is a document, not a black box. Agents change it through the same typed tools the app uses. Dry run first, then apply. Same undo.

No. Nothing is generated. Butter edits your footage, your voice and your sounds. The only things it makes are cuts, captions and motion graphics from what you gave it.
Nowhere. It stays where you saved it: your Mac, a drive, iCloud, your iPhone. Butter keeps previews, transcripts, faces and tags in its own library, and fetches an original only when you export. Speech and vision run on your Mac.
You don't have to pick. Export a Final Cut Pro project and keep editing there. Butter is fastest for the first 90 percent: finding takes, cutting ums, captions, rough cuts.
A Mac with Apple silicon on macOS 26 or later. The iPhone app comes after the Mac app.
Cut points come from your footage, word timings and shots, not from a model's guess. Every change is one undo away, and Butter tells you when it isn't sure about a shot.
